About this Event
Join Alison Gopnik, UC Berkeley Graduate Professor in the Department of Psychology, for a Distinguished Faculty Lecture in the Social Sciences on Three ages and three intelligences: Exploit, Explore, Empower.
Known for her work on theory of mind, cognitive development, and children’s learning, Alison Gopnik contrasts the idea of a single, unitary intelligence in AI. Instead, she shows that human intelligence takes different forms across the lifespan: childhood emphasizes exploration and information-seeking, adulthood focuses on pursuing goals and rewards, and elderhood centers on care and teaching. Gopnik argues that it is the balance of these complementary kinds of intelligence, exploration, exploitation, and care that has driven human success.
This in-person event will be held at the Banatao Auditorium, Sutardja Dai Hall and will follow evolving public health guidelines.
