TRR Newcomers Session: Introduction to Whitewater Kayaking

Who: Veterans and their families are welcome to attend. We promote a safe and friendly environment. This course is a requirement for all other TRR river events.
Complete the TRR Waiver in the pinned section prior to attending a TRR event.
Location: Pyranha US Inc. at 2000 Jonesborough Rd, Erwin, TN
Turn into the Pyranha drive. You will continue past the building, building will be on your right as you pass. Take the sharp left down towards the river on the gravel drive. The parking lot circles the building if you have difficulty taking the turn.
Gear: Come prepared to get wet. Closed toed water shoes. (Some water shoes are available for use). Hydration source.
This session will be a prerequisite for all other Park & Play and River events. Please attend this prior to any other event. All other events will include activities that will require at least an introduction to whitewater kayaking.
What to Expect:
There are no changing areas or bathrooms at this location.
This session will be meant as an introduction to kayaking. There will be some out of water instruction. This will include gear and boat basics, safety, river signals, wet exit demonstration, and TRR introduction. Next will be on-water basics, starting with a wet exit. This will be demonstrated and each new participant will complete until they are comfortable with the technique. This session will conclude with some paddling techniques and some time to try out what you’ve learned. Future sessions will include techniques that promote progression on the water. There are plenty of experienced boaters to guide you on your journey and we hope you join us for some adventures on the water.
