Treasures at The National Archives
About this Event
Join the Jewish Literary Foundation for a special behind-the-scenes visit to The National Archives, home to more than 1,000 years of records documenting the history of Britain and its people.
This small-group tour offers a rare opportunity to explore areas normally closed to the public, including the repositories and reading rooms where some of the nation's most important historical documents are preserved. Led by an official National Archives guide, the tour will reveal how records are collected, conserved and made accessible, while offering fascinating insights into the work of one of the world's leading archives.
Along the way, we will view a selection of original documents from the collections, and have requested the opportunity to see some records of particular Jewish interest, including material relating to England's medieval Jewish community before the expulsion of 1290. These remarkable documents offer a rare glimpse into the lives of Jews in medieval Britain and their relationship with the Crown and wider society.
For anyone interested in history, manuscripts and the stories hidden within original documents, this promises to be a fascinating visit.
