TOTEM: As Ephemera is a group exhibition in dialogue with Erin Turner's first book, TOTEM: As Monument & Archive, published in 2026 by This Land Press. Together, the exhibition and the book raise questions about ephemeral everyday actions — gestures meant to last only briefly — that instead of disappearing can be traced and collected, allowing us to understand the present in conversation with a past that remains. The book and the exhibition together function as an invitation to weave connections across moments of history — to puncture the singular narrative written by those in power. For that reason, the exhibition brings together artists who reflect on history and resist its linearity, while probing and questioning the power of cultural appropriation.
