Historical shoemaker Matt Schlicksup leads an extraordinary workshop for attendees to handcraft their own pair of authentic, custom-fitted buckskin moccasins, leggings, or both!All materials and instruction are provided with the registration fee.
Mr. Schlicksup, an archaeologist, and historian of colonial footwear who practices early American cobbling for a living will also provide a brief presentation on the research behind recreating these unique items of Indian dress.
Participants will have a rare and exclusive opportunity to examine a moccasin from the 1700s discovered at Fort Ligonier during archaeological field work in the 1960s at Fort Ligonier’s Collections Storage Room.
This incredible workshop is limited to 8 participants.
There will be a 30-minute lunch break. Participants are welcome to bring a brown bag lunch or make a quick lunch stop at one of Ligonier’s dining establishments.
