Tie-Dye 250 at the Old State Capitol
About this Event
Youth ages 5-15 and their parent/guardian are invited to join us for this special opportunity to create a patriotic tie-dye shirt in celebration of our nation's 250th birthday! Join us on the north lawn of the Old State Capitol on Saturday, July 4 at 10:00 am or 2:30 pm to create your own unique shirt. Shirt sizes available include Youth Medium, Adult Medium and Adult Large. Be sure to set aside 1-1.5 hours to complete your project.
This program is free and all materials are provided; registration is recommended to secure your spot. Youth must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Please note that while adults may help their child with the project as needed, adults will not be making their own shirts.
In the event of inclement weather, this program will be moved inside the Old State Capitol.
This program is one of several opportunities available during our July 4th Family Day at the Old State Capitol. See our full lineup of events at https://bit.ly/4cHufYb

About the Site
The Old State Capitol State Historic Site is located between Fifth and Sixth Streets and Washington and Adams Streets in downtown Springfield, Illinois. It is a reconstruction of the building that served as Illinois' State Capitol from 1840-1876. During the time this location served as the Capitol, Abraham Lincoln delivered his "House Divided" speech here, and state legislators met here in 1865 to make Illinois the first state to ratify the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution. Civic leaders including Frances Harper, Frederick Douglass and John Jones visited the building to advocate for the expansion of freedom and civil rights to all Americans. Today the building serves as a State Historic Site, while also hosting community gatherings and cultural festivals throughout the year.
