Somatic Art Lab
*A creative nervous-system practice*
The Somatic Art Lab is a gentle, creative space where art becomes a way to listen to the body.
Rather than focusing on artistic skill or finished products, this gathering invites participants to explore how creativity can emerge from sensation, emotion, and presence.
Through guided somatic practices and simple art prompts, we explore how color, shape, texture, and movement can help us notice what the nervous system is holding.
This is not about making “good” art.
It’s about creating a container where expression can unfold naturally.
The lab is guided by artist **Anu French** and somatic facilitator **Julie Johnson**, blending visual art with nervous-system awareness and reflective inquiry.
Participants are welcome exactly as they are.
No art experience is necessary.
This space is designed to support curiosity, presence, and creative exploration in a calm and supportive environment.
Agenda:
Arrival & Orientation (10 minutes)
Participants settle into the space. We introduce the container, materials, and intentions for the lab.
Somatic Grounding Practice (10 minutes):
A gentle guided practice to orient to the body, breath, and environment.
Creative Prompt #1 – Listening Through Color & Shape (20 minutes)
Participants begin creating with a simple prompt designed to connect sensation with visual expression.
Reflection & Sharing (10 minutes)
Optional sharing and noticing what emerged during the first creative round.
Creative Prompt #2 – Movement Into Form (20 minutes)**
A second prompt invites participants to explore gesture, texture, or symbolic imagery.
Integration & Closing (10 minutes)
Participants reflect on what they noticed, how the body responded, and how creativity can continue beyond the lab.

No artistic background is required.
If you enjoy reflective practices such as yoga, journaling, meditation, or contemplative art, you may find this space especially supportive.
