About this Event
Building Pathways of Liberation and Love
The San Francisco Black Business Alliance for African-American Youth Health and Safety (SF AABAYHS) (San Francisco, California, USA) brings together Black for-profit and nonprofit business leaders in the city for a vital gathering. Systemic harm thrives when communities are fragmented, but collaboration can unearth new possibilities. SF AABAYHS seeks to build a coalition of Black business leaders, united in their commitment to addressing critical disparities affecting Black youth in San Francisco. This initiative reimagines safety, health, and opportunity by drawing on the collective brilliance of Black entrepreneurs and innovators.
Understanding the Urgency
San Francisco tells two stories. One is of progress and innovation, celebrated around the world. The other is a story of systemic neglect and exclusion, where African-American communities continually face disproportionate harm. SF AABAYHS exists to shine a light on these inequities and to forge solutions rooted in collaboration and care.
- 40% of domestic violence survivors in San Francisco are Black women, who face M**der rates four times higher than women of other racial groups.
- Black girls in San Francisco schools experience suspension rates 3–4 times higher than their white peers, reinforcing barriers instead of breaking them.
- 73% of Black students in SFUSD rely on free or reduced-priced lunch, reflecting persistent economic insecurities.
- 81% of Black students fail to meet English Language Arts proficiency standards, laid bare by systemic neglect in education.
- Black youth face incarceration rates nearly five times higher than their white counterparts, showcasing failures within the justice system.
- 37% of San Francisco’s homeless population is Black, exposing glaring inequities in housing and economic access.
- Life expectancy in Bayview-Hunters Point is 14 years shorter than in wealthier neighborhoods, a marker of environmental racism and economic neglect.
These aren’t numbers on a page; they are truths that demand recognition and accountability. SF AABAYHS unites Black for-profit and nonprofit leaders to challenge these dynamics head-on. Amplifying the voices and visions of Black entrepreneurs and organizations harnesses creativity and commitment to confront systemic harm and plant seeds for a more equitable future.
Reimagining Futures Through Collaboration
This initiative is more than an invitation to gather; it is a call to redefine what is possible. SF AABAYHS stands at the intersection of advocacy and innovation, where the strengths of the for-profit and nonprofit sectors converge to spark transformational solutions. Programs like this demonstrate that collective action has the power to unearth new possibilities and realize long-held dreams for liberation.
Collaboration thrives when grounded in trust, care, and intention. SF AABAYHS champions this ethos by carving out space where leaders can strategize, reflect, and dream. Together, we are building systems that affirm the value of Black lives and restructure the possibilities for the communities that have been long overlooked.
Always, We Begin Again
This movement reimagines safety, health, and prosperity for Black youth and families. This work is a commitment to the future—a refusal to allow inequities to persist unchecked. It is fueled by action, imagination, and the determination to return what has been stolen.
Black for-profit and nonprofit leaders are uniting to redefine what liberation looks like. Together, we dismantle barriers, expand opportunities, and weave a future where Black communities thrive unapologetically. This is a testament to what can be achieved through intentional collaboration and enduring care.
This is your invitation to join us—to strategize, to build, and to lead. Together, we claim the power to create systems rooted in justice and to ensure the well-being of the generations that follow. Always, we begin again.
