About this Event

Part of The Red Shoes Festival from Peacock Cinema- celebrating the centenary of the birth of Dunfermline-born actress & ballet dancer Moira Shearer.

Background

The second half of the 20th century encouraged people to live for art, beauty and their passions. This was seen by the founding of the Edinburgh Festival in 1947 and was exemplified by Dunfermline-born Moira Shearer’s character, Victoria Page, in The Red Shoes a year later in 1948.

The film made Moira the most famous ballet dancer in the world and the person who inspired many across the world to take up the art form. It was no surprise that when Scotland hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in 1972 that it was Moira who headed the event as the most notable person in Scottish Arts.

What better way to open The Red Shoes Festival in Moira Shearer’s home town than with a dance performance.

We invite you to a dance performance by local dance groups at the Louise Carnegie Gates, followed by joining a parade to the Carnegie Hall before a screening of The Red Shoes (tickets available separately from OnFife), starring Dunfermline-born actress Moira Shearer.

Performances

Audiences will be treated to dance performances from Dunfermline dance groups including Robertson Dance Academy. More details to follow.

As this is a pop-up performance there will be no seating available at the Louise Carnegie Gates during the 20 minutes that we will be there.

Parade

After the performances, City of Dunfermline Pipes & Drums will lead us from the Louise Carnegie Gates along Bridge Street and High Street up to the Carnegie Hall on East Port ahead of the screening of The Red Shoes at 7.30pm. While this is primarily uphill, it will be undertaken at a slow walking pace. For those attending the film screening, there will be time for a comfort break and to get some drinks and snacks.

Attendance at the performance and parade is completely free (no need to purchase a ticket in advance). If you’d like to attend the screening of The Red Shoes tickets are available to purchase in advance here via the OnFife website, or on the door.
