The Outlier Impact Series
About this Event
Nonprofits are built to create change, but passion alone doesn't build sustainable organizations.
The Outlier Impact Series is a hands-on workshop series that helps nonprofit leaders strengthen their financial systems, improve their decision-making processes, and build the infrastructure needed for long-term impact.
This series was created to help leaders answer a critical question:
Is your organization’s financial foundation strong enough to support where your mission is going?
The series will cover key topics including:
- Building a financially healthy nonprofit, and how to recognize the markers of one
- Annual budgeting and planning that reflects true program, administrative, and fundraising costs
- Financial reporting and the numbers that actually drive decisions
- Financial storytelling that earns funder trust
- Accounting setup that keeps your books audit-ready
Designed for executive directors, nonprofit founders, CEOs, finance staff leaders, board members, and organizations ready for growth, each workshop includes live instruction, hands-on application, practical tools, and peer collaboration.

Agenda
🕑: 05:00 PM - 07:00 PM
08/25 - Impact Starts Here: Building a Financially Healthy Nonprofit
Info: We'll define what financial health actually means for a nonprofit and what sets a healthy organization apart. You'll learn the markers that tell you whether an organization is on solid ground, how they work together to form a foundation you can build on, and how to see where your own organization stands against them. You'll leave with an honest read on your organizations financial health and a clearer view of what to strengthen.
🕑: 05:00 PM - 07:00 PM
09/25 - Budgeting for Impact: Annual Planning That Runs Your Year
Info: We'll start where a budget should start: with what your organization intends to do this year, then cost it out fully. You'll learn to count the true cost of a program, both the direct costs and the share of overhead it uses, and why counting both protects the organization. We'll cover setting realistic income targets against those costs and planning for a cushion rather than budgeting down to zero, then running annual planning as something you revisit through the year instead of finishing once. You'll leave with a repeatable annual planning process and a clear way to start your own budget.
🕑: 05:00 PM - 07:00 PM
10/09 - Numbers That Drive Impact: Reporting for Decisions
Info: We'll cover the core numbers most nonprofits watch: liquidity, cash position, revenue mix, and how your spending compares to your plan, and what each one tells you. We'll cover how to decide the metrics your own organization should watch, since the numbers that matter most depend on how you're funded and how you operate. And we'll cover cash-flow timing as its own view, because timing is where organizations get caught even when the annual budget looks fine, plus how to build a simple set of numbers you can put in front of a board so they can act on it. You'll leave with a decision ready set of numbers chosen for your own organization and a simple way to put them in front of your board.
🕑: 05:00 PM - 07:00 PM
11/19 - Making the Case for Impact: Financial Storytelling for Funders
Info: We'll cover how to turn your financials and your results into a story the people outside your organization can understand and trust. We'll cover presenting the true cost and value of your work honestly, so the impact behind the numbers comes through. We'll cover conveying that story to the funders and supporters who back your work, and connecting where you're headed to the numbers that support it, so your plans are grounded in what your organization can sustain. You'll leave with a clearer way to tell your organizations financial impact sotry so it earns real trust and support.
🕑: 05:00 PM - 07:00 PM
12/10 - Impact That Holds Up: Accounting for Audit-Ready Nonprofits
Info: We'll cover the chart of accounts and why its structure matters, restricted versus unrestricted funds and what that means for how you spend, and cash versus accrual in plain terms. We'll cover the recordkeeping habits that make reporting and audits straightforward: documentation behind each transaction, reconciliations on a schedule, and the paper trail that turns an audit into a confirmation of work already done. You'll leave with a clear picture of the accounting setup that makes reporting easier and audits uneventful.
