"The Other"
Bringing Awareness of the Other into My Dance
October 3–4, 2026 | Louisville, Kentucky
Join internationally acclaimed tango artist Fernanda Ghi for a unique two-day immersion exploring one of tango's deepest ideas:
Understanding the other.
Open Role is not simply about dancing both roles. It is about discovering how each role communicates, listens, proposes, responds, and ultimately creates connection.
By experiencing both perspectives, dancers gain greater empathy, clarity, musicality, and presence—qualities that enrich every tango they dance.
This weekend is designed for intermediate tango dancers who are ready to deepen not only what they dance, but how they connect.
🌿 The Open Role Concept
Understanding roles is the key to communication—not only in tango, but in every relationship.
The one who proposes must also learn when to let go and trust.
The one who responds must first learn to listen before reacting.
Open Role invites us to experience both perspectives.
Rather than seeing leader and follower as fixed identities, we begin to understand them as complementary conversations happening within the embrace.
By dancing "the other," we discover both the differences and the remarkable similarities that make tango such a profound dialogue.
As Fernanda says:
"This is not about leading or following. It is about returning to the essence of tango."

Saturday Theme
Organizing the Body
Movement begins from the center.
Through individual and partner exercises we'll explore how the relationship between the center, arms, hands, legs, and feet creates a clearer, more efficient connection.
Topics include:
✨ Finding and organizing your axis
✨ Efficient weight transfer
✨ Generating movement from the body's center
✨ Creating an effortless, intimate embrace
These principles are then applied directly to traditional Argentine Tango figures.
Sunday Theme
The Turn (Giro)
The mechanics of the turn remain the same, regardless of the sequence.
This workshop explores how each role contributes differently while functioning together as one unified system.
We'll investigate:
✨ The mechanics behind every successful giro
✨ How each role generates and receives movement
✨ Exchanging energy through the embrace
✨ Creating fluid, balanced, connected turns
Practical exercises will lead into applications within traditional tango vocabulary.
💃 Who Is This Weekend For?
This immersion is designed for intermediate tango dancers.
