The Odyssey & the Greek Myths

You are invited to a two hour discussion session on The Odyssey, recently highlighted in the 2026 blockbuster film based on Homer’s epic poem. The aim is to explore the themes of journeying, identity, homecoming, and the enduring power of myth.

We’ll meet in the appropriate setting of the Everyman Cinema at King’s Cross. This is one of the venues that screened the epic movie over the summer. It will serve as a perfect backdrop for thinking about storytelling, epic structure, and how Homer’s world still resonates today.

The session will be conversational rather than formal, with space for reflections, favourite passages, and thoughts on how the Odyssey’s ideas echo through modern culture. You are invited to come along with your questions or observations you might wish to discuss. The £5 fee will be refunded on the day. Meaning that the only cost to you will be the Eventbrite fee and whatever you consume on the day.

Note that there are limited spaces, and we be located in the Everyman bar. This is not an official Everyman event. The accompanying photos show the statue of Achilles in London’s Hyde Park, and Perseus in Trentham Gardens, near Stoke on Trent.
