About this Event

Step into the world of the greatest detective of all time on our Free Sherlock Holmes Walking Tour of London. Beginning in the heart of the West End at Piccadilly Circus, this immersive walking tour explores the places, people, and real-life inspirations behind Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary detective.

As we journey through central London, you’ll uncover how Victorian streets, clubs, theatres, and institutions shaped the stories of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson. This tour blends literary history, true Victorian crime, and famous filming locations, making it perfect for both lifelong fans and first-time visitors.

Along the way, your expert guide will reveal the real London locations connected to the Holmes stories, as well as sites linked to Conan Doyle himself. You’ll hear how the character of Sherlock Holmes was inspired by real people, how London’s rapidly changing cityscape influenced the mysteries, and how Holmes became one of the most adapted characters in literary and film history.

The tour also explores locations used in modern Sherlock Holmes film and TV adaptations, including sites connected to productions starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr. We’ll examine how London continues to reinvent Holmes for each new generation while remaining rooted in its Victorian past.

Our route takes us past famous London landmarks, hidden alleys, and atmospheric streets, revealing connections to Victorian policing, forensic science, and the rise of detective fiction. You’ll also learn about the real crimes that fascinated Conan Doyle and how Holmes helped shape modern investigative thinking.

This 2-hour Sherlock Holmes walking tour finishes at the historic Lyceum Theatre, a fitting end point given Holmes’ long association with the stage, screen, and London’s theatrical world.

Ideal for Sherlock Holmes fans, literature lovers, history enthusiasts, families, couples, and solo travellers, this experience is one of the most engaging free walking tours in London.

Places are limited, so book now and follow the clues through the streets of Sherlock Holmes’ London.

The tour begins from The Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain, Piccadilly Circus, London W1J 9HS. https://goo.gl/maps/vX3QwePeWtcK2kHJ8
