About this Event

Come see the 16, gorgeous Alice murals, painted originally for the children’s ward of a Lower East Side hospital by WPA artist Abram Champanier, now restored to their full beauty and reunited for the first time in over half-a-century. Intended to provide relief and delight to children who were often long-term patients, they feature Alice and many of her companions exploring all the wonders of 1930s New York, from shoving onto the subway to flying around the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty, to parachuting into Coney Island.

Dr. Lilly Tuttle will provide expert commentary on the history of the murals and their role in therapy, as well as the thrilling story of how they were rescued and restored, and will go on helping patients today. There is a required donation fee of $50, which must be paid to the Living New Deal here.
