About this Event

House & Studio Tours explore three floors of the Renee & Chaim Gross Foundation's historic LaGuardia Place building.

Tours are guided and last approximately one hour. Tours are limited to 8 visitors. Tickets must be booked at least 24 hours in advance.

The first floor includes Gross's first-floor sculpture studio and gallery, renovated in 1963 by the artist with architects Arthur Malsin and Don Reiman. The third floor houses the Grosses' living and dining spaces, featuring hundreds of works from their extensive private art collection. The installaion includes important American paintings by Marsden Hartley, Willem de Kooning, Milton Avery, Jacob Lawrence, Louise Nevelson, and others. In addition to works by American artists and friends, the collection includes African, European, Pre-Columbian, Oceanic, and decorative arts, preserved as it looked during Gross's lifetime. The second floor houses a temporary exhibition space.

The Renee & Chaim Gross Foundation is a hidden treasure of New York City and featured in the acclaimed guidebooks 111 Places in New York That You Must Not Miss (2015), 111 Museums in New York That You Must Not Miss (2018), Art Hiding in New York: An Illustrated Guide to to the City's Secret Masterpieces (2020), and Guide to Historic Artists' Homes & Studios (2020).

The Foundation has elevator access to all floors. The only area that requires stairs is the studio. However, visitors can get a good look at the studio from the ground floor gallery.

We welcome photography on tours as long as flash is not used.

Large bags will be checked at the Foundation’s entrance. Backpacks must be worn on the front of the body or hand carried. No food or beverage with the exception of closed water bottles.

Please be advised that while we welcome service animals, we cannot accommodate pets at the Foundation.

By purchasing a ticket, you are assuming the risks associated with possible exposure to COVID-19.
