About this Event

Discussing survival, community and rebuilding piece by piece.

"We are made of the things we cannot forget."

Join us in June for our #ReadCaribbean pick, Myriam J.A. Chancy’s What Storm, What Thunder. This novel follows the connected lives of ten people and how they were affected by the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.

This gathering is a space for us to talk about the reality of these characters' lives. We will discuss how they find the strength to keep going when their world is turned upside down and the effort it takes to rebuild their lives piece by piece. It is a chance to connect with others over the heart of the story, regardless of how much of the book you have read.

All readers are welcome. Whether you have finished it, are halfway through, or haven't even picked it up yet, please join us to share your thoughts.

The Narrative

We will look at how the lives of these ten people are linked as they try to move forward. It is a story about the strength of a community and the reality of living on when everything feels broken.

What to expect
  • Guided Discussion: A focused yet unfiltered conversation that moves past the blurb to examine the cultural layers and the craft within the text.
  • Delicious Food: Your ticket includes a personal food box filled with a selection of light, delicious bites to enjoy during the evening.
  • Cosy, Chatty, Chilled Atmosphere: A relaxed environment styled to mirror the themes of the book, providing a comfortable physical anchor for our exploration of identity and home.
  • Shared Connection: A space designed for meaningful interaction with fellow readers, valuing depth and collective perspective over a traditional book club format.
