About this Event
On Wednesday 24th June, Yonder is teaming up with Big Penny and other workspaces and businesses across the Blackhorse Lane area to screen an incredibly important and timely film that asks the big question: how do we actually make change?
We've all felt it, that sinking sense of powerlessness when faced with the scale of what's broken. The problems feel so deeply entrenched, that individual action can seem almost nadequate. Sign a petition, switch to a tote bag, vote every few years and yet the machinery rolls on.
That's exactly why this film matters. Actionism cuts through the paralysis by showing what happens when people stop waiting for permission and start building power together. It's an honest look at the work of collective action, but also a reminder that nearly every meaningful change in history, from workers' rights to civil rights to environmental protections, came from ordinary people deciding the status quo was no longer acceptable.
The film offers a window into how communities are taking on entrenched systems today, and what it actually takes to shift them: patience, solidarity, strategy, and a willingness to keep showing up when progress feels invisible.
Whether you're already organising, quietly frustrated, or just curious about what's possible, this is a chance to come together with neighbours, makers, and businesses from across Blackhorse Lane and beyond to watch, talk, and think about what change could look like here and how we might build it together.
After he short film we will be joined by Ellie who the film follows journey of and Beccy, who is a member of the Re-Action Collective who are the organisation behind producing the film.
After the film, we’ll be joined for a Q&A by Ellie, whose story the film follows and Beccy who is a member of Re-Action Collective (the film producers) and founder of Utilifolk and Ferel Crayon.
Ellie shares her journey from climate anxiety to collective action, while Beccy brings a hands-on perspective from her work in sustainability and grassroots change.
