John Mortimer's hilarious tale of an unsuccessful barrister and his client, The Dock Brief, is coming to Middle Temple on the 26th July
About this Event

The Kalisher Trust is thrilled to present this courtroom classic starring Martin Shaw and Jason Watkins, and directed by Pip Franks.

Popularised by Peter Sellers and Richard Attenborough in the film ‘Trial and Error’, this two handed comedy follows a struggling barrister who finally receives his career defining case: a strangely cheerful client facing a M**der charge.

Providing the early inspiration for the iconic Rumpole of the Bailey, The Dock Brief was hailed by the Sunday Times as “a perfect jewel of a play”. Join us for a night of theatre that might bear a familiar resemblance to life at the Bar: a mixture of farce and pathos - all in support of the work of the Kalisher Trust in our 30th year.

The Kalisher Trust warmly invites you to an exclusive performance of this superb production, for one night only!

About the Kalisher Trust

We are a small, campaigning charity, determined to deliver diversity within the criminal Bar.

We work with young people who have the talent to make it, but whose personal circumstances hamper progress. The hurdles often include significant poverty and family backgrounds. Many are the first in their family to go to university; many know first hand about immigration, homelessness, and family members in Pr*son. We start with educational outreach at secondary school level and we are still there for those first steps as fledgling barristers.

Work at the criminal Bar is difficult: it is tough, working for some of society's most vulnerable who are caught within the criminal justice systems. We are immensely proud of our work; the criminal Bar has to have the brightest and the best so that it holds up its head and serves the community by reflecting and understanding it.

When that is solid and enduring, the pipeline of talent from the Bar to the Bench ensures a judiciary which embraces the highest standards of impartiality, excellence in Law, and compassion.
