A Tasting Experience by Alchème Studio ~ Kōdō Edition
Step into a hidden corner of Hackney Downs, nestled within In Our Neighbourhood Apothecary, for an intimate evening of tea and sensory exploration.
Soft light fills the space. Fragrant smoke lingers in the air. Steam rises gently from the bowl as tea reveals itself not only through taste, but through scent, touch, sound, and atmosphere.
Inspired by Kōdō — the Japanese art of listening to fragrance — this special edition invites you to slow down and experience tea in a way you may never have before.
Whether you come alone or with a friend, you’ll be welcomed into a warm and intimate setting designed for curiosity, connection, and presence.

• A sage matcha course accompanied by freshly prepared mochi
• A palo santo hojicha course accompanied by a mystery treat
• A guided sensory journey through scent, touch, taste, sound, and aesthetics

The Experience
This intimate experience unfolds slowly through a series of tea and sensory rituals.
Each course invites you to engage with tea differently: to notice the warmth of the bowl in your hands, the changing aroma as steam rises, the subtle textures on your tongue, the memories evoked by scent, and the quiet beauty hidden in small details.
Inspired by the spirit of Kōdō, we explore fragrance not simply by smelling it, but by truly listening — allowing aroma, taste, and atmosphere to become a doorway into presence.
There is no right way to experience the afternoon.
You may chat, observe, journal, close your eyes, or simply sit with your tea. The space is open, gentle, and intentionally intimate, allowing each guest to move at their own pace.
Our intention is to create something more than a tea tasting.

A reminder that beauty often lives in the things we almost overlook.

We're located right next to Hackney Downs station (or a 6 minute walk from Hackney Central station), door to the right of Tesco Express.
On your arrival, please scan the QR code on the door to ring us, this is to prevent the door bell from interrupting the experience.
