About this Event
Join us for the first event in the 2026 Heritage Institute Seminar Series, taking place on 2 March.
This seminar brings together three guest contributors: members of our Special Collections and Archives team, alongside Dr Barnabas Calder and Dr Jonathan Hogg.
The Special Collections team will present and discuss a selection of treasures from their archives, offering attendees a rare opportunity to engage directly with unique heritage materials and the stories they contain.
The seminar will also feature two research talks:
- Dr Barnabas Calder will discuss his work on the relationship between energy and human culture across history, with a particular focus on British architecture since 1945 and the ways energy systems have shaped the built environment.
- Dr Jonathan Hogg Voices of British Nuclear Test Veterans will explore his research into the cultural and social history of British nuclear mobilisation. He will draw on his recent role as Co-Investigator on An Oral History of British Nuclear Test Veterans, a project funded by the Office for Veterans’ Affairs (UK Cabinet Office), which documents the lived experiences and long-term impacts of Britain’s nuclear testing programme.
This event marks the opening of the 2026 series and offers an exploration of heritage, memory, energy, and modern history.
