How can how lab-grown meat could reshape agriculture, reduce environmental impact, and address ethical concerns?
About this Event

This lecture takes you inside the latest research from CARMA (Cellular Agriculture Manufacturing Hub), exploring how lab-grown meat could reshape agriculture, reduce environmental impact, and address ethical concerns. We’ll also look beyond the science - examining public perceptions and community conversations which will include voices from Bath City Farm.

Meet the Panel

Dr Katie Little

Katie is a Research Associate in the CARMA(Cellular Agriculture Manufacturing Hub), her work is primarily on scaled production of muscle cells using bioreactors and novel scaffolds. Scaled muscle cell production forms a building block towards cultivated meat, a possible alternative protein. Previously Katie completed her PhD at the University of Bath exploring similar large scale production of cells for cancer research, and she has worked as a Senior Tissue engineer at Cellular Agriculture LTD.

Dr James Riley

Dr Riley is a science, technology and society researcher with expertise in public engagement. He is a Research Fellow at the Royal Agricultural University, working as part of the CARMA collaboration with the University of Bath. He helps lead citizen and stakeholder deliberations on the future of cellular agriculture, exploring public hopes and concerns, and how this social intelligence can inform responsible research and innovation in the field.

Ella Holmes

I manage the livestock at Bath City Farm. Bath City farm is a communtiy farm which provides education, training and therapeutic activities to people in the local community. It is also a working farm that produces fruit, veg, and meat on a small scale.

Siân Yates

Siân Yates is a freelance journalist and consultant specialising in food and beverage innovation. She was most recently editorial director at FoodBev Media, where she launched The Cell Base (now New Tech Foods), a platform celebrating advances in cellular agriculture, alt-protein and fermentation. Sian brings her expertise in storytelling and publishing to make complex topics accessible to wider audiences.
