The Claudettes At White Lilac
About this Event
The Claudettes are not simply a blues band, a cabaret act, a soul revue or a punk-rock outfit. They’re what happens when all four slip out after midnight, meet beneath a flickering neon sign and decide to start a band.
The Chicago quartet twists American roots music into something glitzy, gritty and entirely its own—pounding piano, smoky soul, blues swagger, sharp-edged rock ’n’ roll and film-noir drama. NPR calls them “Chicago’s original recipe band,” while the Minneapolis Star Tribune hears a sensibility “equal parts James Dean and David Lynch.”
Their newly released sixth album, Garage Glamour, takes that unmistakable sound even further: fiery dance-floor grooves, icy cabaret noir, stirring soul and gloriously unruly rock. Released by Chicago’s Pravda Records, it is the first Claudettes album featuring powerhouse vocalist Rachel Williams and includes guest appearances from legendary bluesman John Primer and guitarist Ella Feingold, whose credits include Silk Sonic and Erykah Badu. Spill Magazine called the album “pretty incredible,” praising its soulful, funky, dark and theatrical range.
Williams is a genuine force of nature—a commanding, theatrical singer whose voice can move from intimate and seductive to full-throated fury. She is joined by multi-instrumentalist Zach Verdoorn, drummer Liz Ele and renowned pianist and songwriter Johnny Iguana, a musician with some serious history behind the keys. Iguana toured with blues giants Junior Wells and Otis Rush, appeared on multiple Grammy-nominated recordings and has recorded alongside Buddy Guy, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Derek Trucks, Johnny Winter, James Cotton and Gary Clark Jr.
Television audiences have also heard Iguana’s work: he and longtime collaborator JQ created the original score music for the Emmy-winning FX/Hulu series The Bear.
This is a band built for an intimate room—brilliant musicianship, fearless songwriting, wild personality and enough theatrical electricity to turn a concert into a full-blown occasion. Come ready for blues without boundaries, cabaret without restraint and rock ’n’ roll dressed in its finest garage glamour.
The Claudettes are strange, stylish, soulful and spectacularly alive. This one is going to be a show.
