"In Bird Ornaments, we see the world in different, dazzling parts, which don't add up into something we can immediately grasp ... 'The alphabet sings to her' and, unafraid, she sings right back."
- John Yau, winner of the American Book Award and author of Corpse and Mirror
"If anyone can make a stroke feel like ‘ luck’, [Hughes] manages to make you do it and simultaneously make you grin and laugh out loud .. He writes a good reminder of how delicate life is and how and how much those we love and care about, matter."
- Charlotte Mann (online review)
