This year marks ten years since the death of the Cornish artist Matthew Lanyon, and to commemorate this we are hosting a free, two-day festival at Falmouth University on 3–4 July 2026.
One of Cornwall’s most important, complex and purposeful artists, Matthew was constantly breaking new ground across an expanding range of media and materials, while carrying a challenging and proud artistic and Cornish inheritance.
The Archaeology of Tomorrow: Ten Years into the Afterlife explores Cornish and global themes relating to legacy. It will bring together workshops, talks, film screenings, conversations, performances, and a series of exhibitions presenting Matthew’s paintings, poetry, constructions, and rarely seen material from his personal and professional archive.
The event is free and open to all, and we are grateful to Falmouth University for partnering with us to present this programme. We would be pleased to welcome you for one or both days.
The programme includes exhibitions of works and unseen material, tours and talks and workshops, and there will be screenings of the award winning documentary No Holds Barred and experimental short films made by Matthew.
Join us for the whole event or one day. Each day is full of new surprises, and Falmouth is a great destination for a long weekend. We encourage booking for events. Further details, including workshop booking, can be found on our website
