Formed in Sydney more than twenty-five years ago this trio brings together three of the most exciting, innovative, and experienced musicians in Australia with a strong national and international reputation. The group has long been recognised for its engaging, distinctive, original compositions and for the high level of energy and interplay demonstrated in their performances.

Performances by the Alister Spence Trio include the Wangaratta Jazz Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Vivid Festival Sydney, Tokyo International Jazz Festival, Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, Vancouver International Jazz Festival, and Salisbury and Chelsea Festivals (UK).
The trio’s music has twice been nominated for an ARIA Award: ‘Best Jazz Album,’ 2004 and 2007 for Flux and Mercury.
fit was voted in the 15 top international jazz/improv releases by the WIRE Magazine (UK, 2009).
Not Everything But Enough, was voted in the top ten jazz albums for 2017 by Music Magazine, Japan, and nominated for an APRA/AMCOS Art Music Award in 2018 for ‘Excellence in Jazz.’
Their latest releases, Asteroid Ekosystem (2020), and Asteroid Ekosystem Live (2023) feature Ed Kuepper (The Saints, The Laughing Clowns) on guitar; described as ‘a perfect blend … music that churns up the mysterious forces of the universe.’ 4 1/2 Stars, Dan McClenaghan, AllAboutJazz.com, US.
