GROWING PAINS MIXTAPE LAUNCHPresented by GAUCI, twnty three and Collective Artists
This event takes place on stolen Gadigal Land. Always was, always will be.
An invigorating take on the universal coming of age story, GAUCI present their debut mixtape Growing Pains. As much a self-deprecating middle finger to supposed feelings as it is charged with emotional clarity, GAUCI dissect the triumphs and necessary complexities of aging through a spectrum of genre. Balancing nostalgia with deep studio expertise, and the energy of a live band with digital-pop production in their most adventurous, unrestrained and shamelessly direct project yet.
Joined by Naarm / Melbourne’s Darcy Baylis in support of his new album More Again Forever, Tokyo’s electronic producer-vocalist AYA GLOOMY (DJ set) and local hyper-popstar Holliday Howe.
GAUCI
The creative partnership of acclaimed mix engineer Antonia Gauci (Troye Sivan, 700 Feel, GRAMMY nominated for Kesha) on vocals, seasoned live performer David Gauci (Flowertruck, Hatchie) on guitar and creative multi-hyphenate Felix Lush (Brooke Candy, JamesJamesJames) on bass, GAUCI boast a wealth of expertise and training, galvanised by the freedom to authentically express their range. Praised across NME, Bandcamp, PAPER to more locally FBi Radio, RUSSH Magazine and national playlisting on triple j, on Growing Pains the wallflowers of the past step into the spotlight only just scratching the surface of their own possibility.
DARCY BAYLIS
A veteran of the Naarm / Melbourne underground, Darcy Baylis’ returns with his first release in 3 years, More Again Forever. An 8-track contemporary emo record journeying through airy ambient landscapes and autotuned vocals, to acoustic guitar-driven balladry with shining electronica and shoegaze elements. The critically acclaimed songwriter and producer here moves away from club music, seeing a more quiet Baylis embrace his emo roots in a “return to home.”
AYA GLOOMY
Self-produced and from Shinagawa, Tokyo, AYA GLOOMY, has been conspicuously world-building in the eastern hemisphere since 2018. Her wildly hooky pop melodies and distinctive fashion proclivities have garnered attention throughout Japan and beyond. She has performed alongside Mykki Blanco, Yves Tumor, and Kedr Livanskiy in Asia and Australia. AYA’s debut album was released on Japanese tastemaker label, BIG LOVE. Since then she has self-released one EP and one LP, TOKYO HAKAI (“destruction”). Her most recent singles are on Australian imprint 21 n’ fun, a label run by AYA’s perennial collaborator, artist Mahne Frame.
HOLLIDAY HOWE
Sydney based Holliday Howe is the emerging artist painting over pop with her own freshly darkened hues. Taking her cues from current artists and collectives such as PC Music, Charli XCX and Rina Sawayama, Holliday Howe illuminates her songwriting with an exciting honesty, bringing that underground sound into the impressionist light with which she paints her world. Holliday has spent years drinking in the influences of London’s ultra-inventive club scene whilst honing her own particular melancholic brand of hyperpop.
