Craig Scott and Peter Locke are a rare event in music, each performing internationally in a variety of musical settings and both considered masters of their respective crafts. When performing together a unique connection is created that reaches audiences of all ages and genres, resulting in unexpected musical serendipities. Double Entendre introduces modern audiences to new repertoire including originals and classic arrangements of jazz standards.
Peter Locke:
Peter Locke is one of Australia's most highly respected jazz pianists, musical directors and accompanists. Based out of Sydney, Peter is in high demand in many musical settings due to the impressive depth of the jazz tradition in his playing.
A protégé of piano master Chuck Yates, in addition to performing with his own Peter Locke Trio, he collaborates at home and has toured internationally with leading ensembles including the Daly-Wilson Big Band of the 80’s, the New Wolverine Jazz Orchestra, Dan Barnett’s Big Band, Society Syncopators (Melbourne) and Brad Child's Swing-Era Big Band. He is frequently pianist of choice with Adrian Cunningham, Bob Henderson, Geoff Power and Bill Burton.
Peter has toured nationally with Bob Barnard and Leroy Jones (of Harry Connick Jnr fame) and his international appearances include four USA tours for the Bix Beiderbecke Festival, plus tours of Asia, Europe, Brazil and New Zealand.
Australia’s top vocalists seek Peter out as their preferred accompanist.
There are few musicians today who can move so seamlessly from interpretations of the works of Bix Beiderbecke and Duke Ellington to Be-Bop and beyond.
Craig Scott:
Craig Scott has been one of Australia's leading bassists for over 40 years. He began his career in jazz in 1979 with the Keith Stirling Quartet. Since that time he has been a member of many other jazz groups led by such well-known jazz identities as:�Don Burrows, James Morrison, Julian Lee, Kerrie Biddell, Judy Bailey, Roger Frampton, Jim Pennell, Di Bird and many others.
He leads his own quintet “CSQ” and was bassist with the Judy Bailey Trio for many years. Craig has accompanied a plethora of visiting international jazz artists including: Joe Henderson, Red Rodney, Urbie Green, Clifford Jordan, Nat Adderley, Branford Marsalis, Lee Konitz, Ronnie Scott, George Cables, Jim McNeely, and Mark Levine.
Craig is deeply involved in jazz education. He was Chair of Jazz Studies and Senior Lecturer at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music 2004-2016, and is still active as a sessional academic.
Peter and Craig have been performing together in many contexts since 1980. This duo represents the long held realisation of many conversations and musical adventures.
