Teranga
About this Event
As part of the Calderdale Food Festival, we invite you to experience one of humanity's oldest traditions, the ritual of welcome through the sharing of a drink.
Across cultures and continents, the offering of a drink is far more than an act of refreshment. It is a gesture of welcome, an expression of generosity, and an invitation to belong. In many communities across indigenous, hospitality begins with the sharing of a drink, creating space for conversation, connection, and trust.
At the heart of this lunchtime gathering is the sharing of the Drink of Hospitality, inspired by the spirit of Teranga, the tradition of generous welcome. Together we will reclaim this ancient practice, celebrating hospitality not simply as something we offer, but as something we experience together. You will be invited to taste a new drink created especially for this gathering, an offering that speaks to reclamation, repair, and renewal.
Through sharing this drink we honour traditions that have endured across generations and cultures, while imagining new ways of welcoming one another into community.
Join us for a unique lunchtime experience where food, drink, story, and hospitality come together in a shared act of welcome.
