Tasting Class: Meet the Winemaker from Weis Vineyards

Born in Zell Mosel, Germany, Winemaker Hans Peter Weis grew up in the vineyards and cellar of his family’s winery. It was there that he gained his passion for wine, continually learning and working with his family to learn the techniques and traditions of the Mosel.

Peter decided it was time to travel away from home and gain experience in different wine regions. This is how he ended up finding his way to the Finger Lakes region in 2006. Peter’s love of the Finger Lakes comes from the superb terroir it provides. With the vast array of diversity in the soil, he is able to utilize the strong minerality and slate characteristics to produce high quality Riesling, just as they do in the Mosel.
