Instructors of the Shennecossett Yacht Club Sailing Program teach young sailors the fundamentals of sailing and seamanship. In addition to boat handling, we emphasize water safety, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and fun – skills important to sailors of all ages.Our staff consists of Senior Instructors who are certified by the U.S. Sailing Association, as well as junior instructors selected from previous classes. Junior instructors are those who demonstrate the most responsible behavior, excellent seamanship and boating skills. Our program is associated with both the U.S. Sailing Association and Eastern Connecticut Sailing Association.
We offer three levels of instruction: Beginner, Intermediate, and Adventure sailing. We use two types of sailing dinghies in our programs: Optimists and Club 420’s. Boats will be provided for all students. There will be two, three and a half week training sessions offered for the 2026 season.
