About this Event
When Calgarians think about fruit, we often think of the fruit from BC. Yet here in Calgary we can grow many kinds of fruit, from apples to strawberries and pears through kiwi. In this talk and hands on activity, we will learn about growing fruit successfully in Calgary, including:
- What types of fruit that are hardy for Calgary- from apples to kiwi
- Planning your fruit garden orchard or food forest
- Selecting trees and shrubs
- Planting techniques and first year requirements for newly planted trees and shrubs
- Care for fruit trees and shrubs including training and pruning
- Harvesting tips
- Pests and diseases of fruit species
Hands-On Activity:
Plant your own strawberry container to take home!
Grow fresh, local fruit in your own backyard.
