About this Event
Join artist, Jessica Emsley, in this outdoor art workshop focusing on the senses, and how we might engage with nature through creativity. Together, we will explore the area of the Helm above Kendal as we look closer at this familiar landscape at thsi time of year. Participants will be led through a series of experimental drawing exercises, exploring the senses and mark-making in response to what we observe. We will walk and draw before spending a longer period of time at the tarn on land managed by Friends of the Lake District. Here, we will share a picnic whilst reflecting on our experiences and making our final drawings and combining the senses. Homemadeseasonal cake and scones will be provided, along with cordial to drink, and participants are encouraged to bring some food along too.
This workshop is suitable for all artistic abilities and focuses on the process of drawing and the enjoyment of being outside and connecting with the landscape. We will take a slow approach to the session, however will be walking on mildly hilly ground so some level of physical fitness is required.
Date: 4th May 2024
Time: 11.00 - 13.30
What to bring: an email will be sent out with further information, but you will need to wear appropriate clothing for the weather and you are encouraged to bring food for a picnic (cake, cordial and homemade scones will be provided).
We will meet and finish at the first large layby on the Helm road (opposite the Station Inn) just past Oxenholme Station. In case of poor weather (more than light rain or winds), the workshop will be postponed and refunds will be available as an alternative. We will be out in the elements on grassy/ hilly ground and participants' ability to participate is up to their own discretion; please feel free to ask any questions for more information.
