Join us at the History Center (183 Main Street) on Thursday, April 2, at 6pm for a student presentation in collaboration with SUNY Oneonta. Featuring the work of SUNY Oneonta students Abigail Draper, Sadie Hall, and Emma McCarthy, “The Arthur Curtis Diaries” presentation will highlight the diary transcriptions of Mathematics and Penmanship professor at the Oneonta Normal School, Arthur Curtis. During his 38 years of teaching (1895 – 1933), Curtis devoted himself to his students, colleagues, and community. From 1910 to 1913, he wrote a series of diaries in which he discussed his views on current events of the time, participation in woman suffrage, religious ideals, involvement in the community, and relationships with his colleagues.
SUNY Oneonta students will discuss their progress in transcribing these diaries, and the many ways they provide insight into Curtis’ personality and everyday life in turn-of-the-century Oneonta.
This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited and will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.
