LaDarrion Williams Bio
LaDarrion Williams is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, playwright, filmmaker, and screenwriter whose work is redefining Black fantasy for a new generation. A native of Helena, Alabama, he is celebrated for creating richly imagined stories that center Black history, culture, ancestry, and magic. His acclaimed Blood at the Root series—including Blood at the Root, Bones at the Crossroads, and Ashes at the Altar—has captivated readers with its groundbreaking vision of a magical HBCU and unforgettable coming-of-age adventures.
Beyond novels, Williams is an accomplished playwright whose works have been featured by the Sundance Institute, the Eugene O'Neill National Playwrights Conference, the Echo Theatre Playwrights Lab, and other nationally recognized theaters and festivals. His acclaimed play Boulevard of Bold Dreams, inspired by Hattie McDaniel's historic Academy Award win, has received productions across the United States, while Coco Queens earned the New Works@theWorks Playwriting Award and premiered to critical acclaim.
Through his writing, filmmaking, and theater, Williams continues to expand the possibilities of fantasy by placing Black characters at the center of epic adventures, proving that imagination, heritage, and culture belong together.
