Join Playwright Oscar Arguello as he teaches the basics and fundamentals of playwriting with an emphasis on writing a short play by the end of class. You will learn what makes a story compelling, urgent and entertaining. Students will bring material to share in class and will get feedback from Oscar and other participants in class.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Oscar Arguello is a Chicano playwright whose works include Sideways Fences which premiered at Casa 0101 in 2017 and Bad for the community in 2016. Most recently his work was performed in Fernandomania in 2026 and Pendejo of the United States in 2027, as part of the Artists and Activists festival. His work has also been performed at the Ensemble Studio Theatre and Robey Theatre Company. He also taught playwriting for Unusual Suspects Theatre Company. With over 25 full-length works and One Act plays, he also wrote the film Los Desaparecidos which went on to win many awards at several independent film festivals domestically and internationally.
