Start with Survivors
About this Event
KEYNOTE SPEAKER: SOPHIE OLSON
Author of “The Flying Child”
Delivered in partnership by ARCH Teesside, Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland and RSACC Darlington & County Durham the event is an opportunity to hear directly from survivors of sexual violence about their experiences of seeking support. Start with Survivors aims to bring together commissioners, funders, policymakers, elected representatives, health professionals, criminal justice partners and voluntary sector organisations.
Too often, services are designed around systems and processes rather than the realities of people's lives. This event aims to create space for professionals to listen, learn and reflect on what helps, what harms, and what makes support services truly effective from a survivor's perspective.
We are particularly pleased to welcome Sophie Olson, author of The Flying Child, as our keynote speaker. Sophie is a powerful advocate for survivors, and her work has challenged organisations and professionals to think differently about trauma, recovery and the impact of being heard.
Alongside the keynote address, the day will include:
- Insights from national research and emerging evidence.
- Interactive learning sessions focused on responding to survivors in trauma-informed ways.
- A lived experience panel and audience Q&A.
- Discussion on how survivor perspectives can inform commissioning, policy and service development.
- Opportunities to network with colleagues from across the North East.
