Get ready for an amazing start to the Scottish Short Film Festival! , partnering with the National Library of Scotland's moving image archive and Kelvin Hall celebrating the best short films showcasing Scottish talent and themes.
Workshop: ‘Interrogating your story.’
We all have great ideas for short films, but does yours actually work as a story? Does it have all the elements a story needs to entertain your audience? This workshop is an opportunity to interrogate your short film story; to run it through a checklist, demonstrated by using a short film as an example. Lead by Marc Pye, writer and former Story Editor for BBC Studios.
BIOGRAPHY:
Marc Pye has written many hours of drama for series and serials including EastEnders, Holby City, Hollyoaks, The Bill, Waterloo Road, The Royal, Holby Blue, Doctors, Echo Beach, River City, High Road and RTE’s Fair City, but is best known for writing The Flasher for the BAFTA, International Emmy and RTS award winning Series One of Jimmy McGovern’s The Street. Marc then went on to work with Jimmy on his daytime series Moving On, where he penned Bully.
He is the author of four novels, Lollipop and Rewire (Sceptre) and Babushka and Spring Heeled Jack (Amazon). His three short films - Baldy McBain, Last Legs and Instant Credit all premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Instant Credit won the Newport Beach Film Festival, LA in 2004.
His first co-written feature film, Act of Grace, starring Leo Gregory, David Yip and Jennifer Lim was released May 2012. His second feature, The Daniel Connection, has been distributed by California Pictures. Inc, Paramount Pictures Studios. His third feature, Dressers, is in development with Junkyard Dog Films Ltd and Moquette Films Ltd.
From May 2023 – Jan 2024 he worked at BBC Studios, Dumbarton, Scotland, as Story Editor on River City. He regularly lectures at Caledonian University and each year he mentors’ students on the MA TV writing course. He is also a freelance script editor.
