About this Event
Join us for this Creative Writing Workshop with 2025 PMRCAA Resident Writer Evie Atom Atkinson!
Date: August 19th
Time: 4 - 6 p.m.
Location: Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture
Dive into this dynamic and reflective creative writing workshop with PMRCAA Resident Writer Evie Atom Atkinson! Returning from research in Croatia, writer and poet Evie Atkinson will inspire participants to critically think as they explore their experiences through a different lens. In this workshop, participants will engage in a "speculative oral history" practice, as both interviewer and interviewee, exploring the co-creative implications of imagining alternate futures.
Workshop Highlights:
-Rethink what we assume to be inevitable: Imagine an alternative past. Imagine an alternative present. With the support of Evie Atkinson and a writing process she has developed and used with students from high school to graduate school, participants will compose a “speculative oral history” pertaining to the environment.
-Peal away assumptions: Inspired by their own creative natures, participants will reconsider a dominant world view on the environment, which may include impending crises and catastrophes. Each will compose a narrative that is founded in their own theoretical frameworks.
Unfold and build something new: “Speculative oral futures” allow for the creation of new perspectives built on legitimizing one’s own experience and imagining a world that was unimaginable before.
