Sound It Out! - Summer Camp for 8-10y

What kind of summer camp is this?

Our Sound It Out Summer Camp helps kids become confident readers through engaging, hands-on learning! Using a structured, phonics-based approach, campers will learn how sounds and letters work together to build strong reading and spelling skills. Through games, stories, movement, crafts, and playful challenges, children will practice blending sounds, decoding words, and building fluency—all in a supportive and encouraging environment. This camp is perfect for young learners who would benefit from strengthening their foundational skills, while still having plenty of summer fun along the way! This clinic based camp will be led by a Speech Language Pathologist.

• Half Day: 9am - 1pm

Where will the camp take place?

This camp will take place at our location in downtown Cochrane.

Is this camp a good fit for my child?

Following registration through Eventbrite, registrants will receive an intake form from Ascend Pediatrics to verify participants meet the developmental and health requirements for safe camp attendance.

Registrants should:

• Have established initial reading skills
• Have the skills required for group work (eg. can follow group plan, able to sit for extended periods)
• Have pre-literacy skills (eg. knows how to hold a book, hold a pencil) 

• Be able to independently use the washroom for all purposes
• Not pose a heightened risk of elopement (bolting/running off)
• Be prepared for light physical activity

If it is determined that your child requires an individual support person to accompany them for safe camp attendance, this will be your responsiblity to arrange.
