This training will introduce you to the basics of Somatics as well as Yin Yoga and how they work together to create a safe, gentle and mindful practice.
Somatic movements focus on neuromuscular re-education, which helps release chronically tense and over-used muscles.
Yin style postures focus on the connective tissues and is a slower more meditative Yoga practice.
There will also be a day devoted to Restorative Yoga to understand and experience this style more deeply.
In these hours, you will explore:
* The history and principles of Yin Yoga
* Common yin poses and the somatic movements which compliment them
* The benefits of Somatics and Yin Yoga
* Sequencing classes
* Yin anatomy
* The differences and similarities between Yin and Restorative
* How to make common Yin poses Restorative
* Practice teaching
Open to all interested students, no previous teacher training required. However, if you plan on teaching this style of Yoga, a 200-hour Teacher Training Certificate may be required.
For those registered with the Yoga Alliance, this training counts for 50 hours of continuing education credits.
A training booklet will be provided. Students will be required to purchase the book: “The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga: The Philosophy and Practice of Yin Yoga” - Bernie Clark

Lead trainer will be Samantha Sambrooke.
Samantha completed her first Yoga certification in 2009 with YogaLife in India. She is a Yoga Therapist, a graduate of Yoga North International Soma Yoga Institute, an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance (E-RYT at the 500-hour level) and a Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN).
She has over 4000 training hours, runs Maritime Yoga as has been teaching Yin Yoga for over 14 years.
She will be joined by Megan Macdonald - a researcher, teacher, and facilitator of self-healing methods whose work sits at the crossroads of embodied practice, ancestral wisdom, and lived transformation. Her rich experience in Restorative Yoga adds an extra dimension to this offering!
