Adapted from her sold-out Building Blocks of Playwriting course, this workshop invites learners into the creative process with award-winning Filipino-Canadian playwright Marie Beath Badian. Participants will explore the fundamentals of character development and monologue creation through writing exercises, discussion, and guided practice. Marie Beath is the acclaimed author of plays including 'The Waltz,' 'Prairie Nurse,' 'The Best Friend Blanket Fort Show,' 'The Making of St. Jerome,' 'Mind Over Matter,' and 'Novena.'
Based in T’karonto [Toronto], Badian is a two-time alumnus of The Banff Playwrights Lab and served as the 2024 Playwright in Residence. Her work has been developed with leading Canadian theatre companies including Cahoots Theatre, Tarragon Theatre, Soulpepper, The Factory Theatre, fu-GEN Asian-Canadian Theatre, Project:Humanity, and The Blyth Festival.
