SIGN WRITING at MAGIC ROCK TAP.

Magic Rock + Umberto brings another event to this well loved tap room.

The workshop will cover the basics of sign-writing methods.

Using pencil and paper, Umberto will teach you two methods of drawing showcard casual lettering using optical and mecnahical techniques, before moving onto brush techniques that are the staple of a sign writer's tool kit. Each person will learn how to paint lettering using non solvant black paint onto white or brown paper.

Umberto will deliver a beginners guide to showcard writing. If you are unsure what 'showcard writing' is, think about the signs in a green grocer shop.

Working with lettering styles, layout, paint techniques, through the day you will develop a style and sign that will be rooted in the traditions of advertising using sign writing methods.

An ideal workshop for shop owners, bartenders who use chalk boards as well as graphic design students and more.

All materials are provided.

Umberto will give step by step instructions and 1-1 guidance throughout the day, on how to hold the brush with a mahl stick, how to load the brush with paint as well as talking through the various ways of painting individual letters.

You will walk away will a wealth of signwriting knowledge as well as a series of hand painted posters, drawn and painted by hand. Though following the guidance of Umberto, each person will have their own individual style to their finished work.

The day will be contextualised throughout with links between the lettering styles of the workshop and ghost signs of Huddersfield and beyond.

VENUE

Magic Rock tap often have a food van on site selling street food. The venue sells coffee and tea as well as soft drinks and their well known craft ale, all from their award winning tap room. Limited parking on site but plenty of parking on the residential streets in the surrounding area.

The venuw is around a tten min' walk from Huddersfield train station and around 20 min' walk from Huddersfield Bus Station.
