SoHarlem is a place-based social enterprise that connects people living in poverty with cultural industry opportunities that help them achieve economic self-sufficiency. To do this, we incubate creative entrepreneurs, and we train the workforce needed to sustain them.
Over the past twelve years, SoHarlem has launched more than 20 successful micro-businesses comprising everything from custom-made, couture garments to fashion accessories and face masks. Our Entrepreneurs in Residence are Javier Valencia (Javier Valencia Designs), Olivia Smashum (Blue Olive), Donna Drew (Triangle Designs), Zaire Benjamin (Lost Souls), Noah Josēph (Art in Heaven), Kenny Allen, Walter Dixon (Atashi), Deirdre Washington (BLHR), Gladys Perez, and Jacqueline Puello-Raboy (JPR Creations).
SoHarlem’s Creative Economy Training Institute is open to under and unemployed local residents, at no cost to them. Participants receive workforce training on the fundamentals of sewing and are placed to work in the fashion industry via our Creative Economy Institute. At SoHarlem you can Create Your Signature Style with Made-to-Measure Garments! Our designers offer bespoke services, from initial concept and pattern creation to expert construction and precise fittings. At SoHarlem's Designers’s Hub A Studio Membership Program , we offering a range of valuable services. (Please note that this is a separate program from our Creative Entrepreneurship Program (CEP).
