Shop Outreach Workshop With Glasgow Southside Anti-Raids Network
About this Event
Glasgow Southside Anti-Raids Network are putting on a shop outreach workshop. This workshop is for people who want to reach out and connect with small businesses who might be at risk of being affected by immigration raids.
In the past six months, we have seen:
- A shift in the focus of immigration raids; the majority of immigration raids now take place at workplaces rather than private residences
- With the rise of the far right, there has been a rise in malicious, racially motivated reports of immigration violations, targeted at businesses owned by or employing migrants.
- These raids have left many local business owners struggling to make ends meet, dealing with lost time and losing staff to immigration raids.
It is more important than ever that we bridge the gaps between our communities and actively reach out to our local businesses who might be at risk of immigration raids. This allows us to share resources, inform people of their immigration rights and communicate the clear message that migrant-owned businesses are an essential part of our communities at a time where they are receiving incredible levels of undue hate and hostility.
Collecting experience from our own shop outreach in the Southside along with experience and advice from people doing shop outreach in other parts of Glasgow, we'll be going over:
- How to make contact with shop owners and workers and discuss anti-raids principles with them
- Immigration rights in the workplace
- Problem solving common barriers to building connections with shop owners and workers
- How to navigate language barriers and cultural differences
All are welcome and no experience is needed. We are not experts, we are just sharing what we know and encourage you to do the same in the space.
Who are we?
Glasgow Southside Anti-Raids Network is a non-hierchical group covering the Southside of Glasgow. We aim to organise a community response to immigration raids and support our neighbours, local businesses and friends who are at risk of being targeted by immigration raids.
Please note that we are not legal experts, and cannot provide individual advice on immigration status. However we can provide signposting information for legal aid and support.
