π¦π΅πΆπ»π² π’π» ππΆπΊππ is an immersive First Nations and Bama multi-arts light festival, led by Artistic Director, Rhoda Roberts AO, under guidance from our dedicated team of Cultural Guides. Held along the glistening foreshore of tropical Gimuy/Cairns, our 2024 festival will bring the Esplanade and Salt House Festival Hub to life from 3-13 October.
Hosted by the Yidinji Nation, on their homelands, our festival is a celebration of all forms of First Nations storytelling, showcasing innovative arts and cultural practices, as well as illuminating insights in science and industry.
In 2024 visitors can experience our signature events (running from 3-6 October, with the Artstory Light Walk extending on until 13 October):
β¨ Artstory Light Walk (3-13 October) β An immersive installation of light and art sculptures, animations and soundscapes, held along Gimuy Boulevard adjacent to Cairns Lagoon (FREE),
β¨ Calling Country Ceremony (3 October) β A coming-together of dance groups from local and neighbouring nations and clan groups, held on the Eastern Events Lawn, Cairns Esplanade (FREE),
β¨ Deep Wisdom Conversations β A series of conversations on topics remarking on philosophy, science, the arts, cultures, and politics of First Nations peoples, held at Salt House Festival Hub (TICKETED),
β¨ Music Makers performances β Featuring world-renowned and emerging talent, held at Salt House Festival Hub (TICKETED),
β¨ Blak Markets β An ethical marketplace of First Nations' arts and crafts, as well as business stalls, held on Gimuy Boulevard (FREE),
β¨ Unplugged (Open Mic) β In a festival first, Shine is offering up our stage for emerging and local artists (performers, singers, rappers, comedians, poets etc) to showcase their deadly talent.
