Your Topic:
Sharks, Fear & Human Psychology
Fear of sharks runs far deeper than the risk they actually pose. So why do they hold such a powerful place in our imagination?
This talk explores the psychology behind one of humanity's most enduring fears, revealing how media, storytelling and our own cognitive biases have shaped the way we think about sharks. Discover why certain fears become deeply ingrained, how perception often outweighs reality, and what our relationship with sharks can teach us about the way humans process risk.
By understanding the psychology of fear, we'll uncover not only why sharks have become cultural icons of danger, but also how those fears influence our relationship with the ocean itself.
Your Speaker: Dr. Brianna Le Busque
Dr. Brianna Le Busque is an environmental psychology scientist and marine social scientist who studies the most complicated species on the planet: humans. Her work sits at the intersection of people and the environment, unpacking the beautifully messy, bi‑directional relationship between us, how we shape nature, and how nature shapes us in return.
