Serotiny: Parables of the Banksia
The exhibition offers a quiet space to consider experiences that are often kept private or unseen. For Lucy, art has become an important language for moving through pain, loss and renewal, providing a way to express lament while holding onto the possibility of hope.
Bringing together large scale paintings, video works, linocut prints and drawings, many of the works have emerged from specific moments in Lucy’s own journey through loss and suffering.
The title Serotiny refers to the botanical ability of some banksias to release or germinate their seeds in response to fire. Using the banksia as an allegory, the exhibition considers how suffering and endurance can lead to transformation, and how healing, resilience and new growth can emerge from life’s most fractured places.
More than simply a botanical subject, the banksia becomes a guide through the exhibition, offering a reflection on resilience, renewal and the legacies we carry forward.
