See the Light (Free Women’s Photography Workshop)

Light changes everything in photography — and once you start noticing it, your photos improve fast.

In this free women’s workshop (16+), part of our Arts Council England funded project Behind Lens Beyond the Sport, you’ll learn how to work with light to get more creative, more confident, and have a lot more fun taking photos.

We’ll explore a mix of indoor lighting and outdoor light, with simple practical exercises you can use again and again.

No fancy kit needed. This project is about making photography more accessible to women. All you need is a smartphone camera — we’ll show you how to use it brilliantly. If you have a camera you’re welcome to bring it, and we’ll also have equipment available for you to try out on the day.

What we’ll cover:

• How light affects mood, story and quality in your photos
• Natural light basics (direction, softness, golden hour vibes)
• Indoor light tips you can try at home
• Creative ways to use shadows, silhouettes and reflections

Who it’s for:
Women aged 16+. Beginners welcome — no experience needed.

What to bring:
A charged smartphone (optional: charger/power bank). Optional: your own camera.
