About this Event
This workshop is all about photographing movement — the energy, emotion and story you can capture when life isn’t standing still.
As part of our Arts Council England funded project Behind Lens Beyond the Sport, we’ll explore how to freeze action for crisp, powerful images and how to blur motion creatively to show speed, atmosphere and feeling.
To make it real (and fun), we’ll be utilising a self-defence workshop as part of the movement element, giving you live action to photograph in a supportive environment.
You don’t need fancy equipment. This project is about making photography more accessible to women. All you need is a smartphone camera — we’ll teach you how to turn your phone into an amazing tool for capturing movement. If you have a camera you’re welcome to bring it, and we’ll have some equipment available for you to explore and try out too.
What we’ll cover:
- Freezing vs blurring motion (and when to use each)
- Simple phone-friendly techniques for movement photography
- Composition ideas for action and storytelling
- Capturing emotion through body language and energy
Who it’s for:
Women aged 16+. Beginners welcome — no experience needed.
What to bring:
A charged smartphone (optional: charger/power bank). Optional: your own camera.
