LJMU's IMS Team presents a special screening of the new short film Breadseed followed by a short talk/ Q&A with filmmaker Linda Carmichael
About this Event

BREADSEED is a 19-minute short live action film inspired by writer and co-director Linda Carmichael’s experience of loving—and losing—a son who used drugs. The film interweaves two worlds, Afghanistan and the UK, through the experience of one family affected by opioid addiction.

Following the screening, Linda will speak about discovering harm reduction and the history of the war on drugs only after her son’s death.

The event will also explore impact filmmaking: the ability of film to reach beyond facts and statistics, engage people emotionally, challenge deeply held assumptions and open conversations that can influence public understanding.

Linda and her daughter, filmmaker Lauren Muchan, believe that storytelling can make a meaningful contribution to the harm-reduction movement. The screening and short talk will be followed by a question-and-answer discussion.

Refreshments will be provided.
